When women come together to share their stories, healing takes on a deeper meaning.
In a touching Zoom session, Ambba’s founder Abidah sat down with her former student Sagal, who opened up about her long and painful journey with Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) and how learning to reconnect with her body transformed everything.
Living with SPD Through Multiple Pregnancies
For many women, SPD feels like an unavoidable part of pregnancy, something to “just get through.” But as Sagal discovered, it’s often a sign that the body is calling for support and realignment.
She first experienced SPD in her second pregnancy, but by her fourth, the pain had become unbearable. “I honestly felt like I needed crutches,” she shared. “Nothing could relieve the pain except healing through knowledge of my own body.”
Doctors told her the pain was normal, but she later learned SPD is deeply linked to pelvic misalignment, weakened core muscles, and posture imbalance, issues that can be improved with awareness and targeted restorative movement.
The Turning Point: Learning About Alignment
After years of back-to-back pregnancies, Sagal admitted she had never taken time to strengthen or rebalance her body. Through Abidah’s classes, she began to understand the importance of alignment, breathwork, pelvic floor health, and mindful core connection. Before this she had no knowledge of such issues.
“We can’t plan to have children without taking care of our bodies first,” she said.
Sagal spoke of how the classes focused on body-weight movement; targeted and powerful exercises that helped her rebuild strength and stability. “The exercises weren’t difficult,” she recalled. “But so much healing took place.”
A Pain-Free Fifth Pregnancy
When she became pregnant again, Sagal feared another difficult experience. To her surprise, and relief the SPD never returned.
“My body felt completely different,” she said. “I didn’t feel compromised. I could walk, move, and enjoy my pregnancy, like never before. My core was stronger, and I had no SPD at all.”
Her fifth pregnancy became a testament to how healing and strength is possible when women gain knowledge on how to heal themselves by understanding their bodies and giving themselves the time and care they deserve.
Lessons for Every Woman
Sagal’s message to other women is beautifully simple:
“Don’t try to fix your body once you’re already in the problem. Work on your core and alignment before starting a family.”
She now encourages her daughters, and all women to care for their bodies before pregnancy.
Misalignment and weakness build up silently over time. Women should not wait for motherhood to resolve such issues.
She also reflected on how many women are told their pain is “normal” during pregnancy. “It’s not okay to be in pain for nine months,” she said. “We deserve better support, better education, and better awareness.”
The Power of Preventative Care
As Abidah reminded the group, “It’s always better to use preventative measures rather than falling into a state of complete loss and debilitation.”
Through targeted exercises, improved posture, and mindful breathing, women can not only ease SPD but also rebuild their strength, confidence, and connection to their bodies, inside and out.
Sagal’s story is a shining example that healing is possible. With knowledge, guidance, and consistency, the body can realign, recover, and thrive again.
